Wetherby, Cheltenham & Uttoxeter Racecourse
Seven runners spread across three meetings for Nigel Twiston-Davies & Team Twiston today.
12.38 - Sir Valentine - Meets just two rivals, but on ratings this appears to be a match. Made a very encouraging chasing debut over 2m at Cheltenham’s October meeting when second of four. This 1m 7f on good to soft can help bring out some more improvement and we are hopeful it will be enough to take this. Kielan Woods takes the ride.
1.05 - Arthur’s Gift - Won over a similar trip to today’s 3m 1f at Carlisle back in February ‘19 from a mark of 130 then went up 8lbs for that. Had five more runs in the following year, but not had a race since last February. Was due to run at Sedgefield four weeks ago but didn’t run after refusing to line up. Now back to within 3lbs of that last winning mark, has a good each way chance on his best form. Zac Baker rides and takes off 5lbs in this conditionals and amateur riders event.
2.15 - Al Dancer - Made a successful seasonal debut at Newton Abbot a month ago, staying on well over the 2m 5f on the good to soft surface. Meets similar ground over the 2m 4f of this, the Paddy Power Gold Cup, having come on for the run at Newton Abbot. Up 2lbs to 154 and with more to come, looks good each way value. Sam Twiston-Davies aboard.
3.25 - Topofthecotswolds - Started the season well with a good second place over fences and 3m at Market Rasen, but reverting to hurdles, went one better at Uttoxeter over 4f shorter in a novice event. Was a good third over course and distance in October and now into handicap hurdles company, looks to be on a good mark of 132 compared to his chase mark of 137. We’re hopeful of taking advantage and expecting a good run. Sam rides.
2.07 - Ballymalin - Returned to action at the Cheltenham October meeting but pulled up three out after a round of sketchy jumping. That was his first outing for almost a year, needed the outing and dropped 3lbs for that, goes from the same mark as his last win of 122, at Worcester October ‘19. Should be much less ring rusty now and well weighted to put that Cheltenham run behind him over a trip and ground that will suit. Jordan Nailor rides claiming 5lbs.
3.17 - Alfsboy - Has had a bumper and four maiden hurdle outings to date, but so far failed to make an impact. Not been out since February but since then has had time to develop further. Returns to make his handicap debut from what could prove an attractive mark of 85 and with the 2m 4f trip on good to soft now likely to suit him much better, he can go well. Jordan aboard and again takes off a further 5lbs.
3.50 - Goast Dancer - Makes his racecourse bow in the bumper over 2m. A French bred, he’s well related to others that have done well in bumpers and with our runners in that sphere showing up well lately, hopeful of another good showing. Jordan rides.
