Haydock Park & Ascot Racecourse
Nine runners today, with Haydock Park Racecourse taking six and Ascot Racecourse with three.
12.05 - Torn And Frayed had a nice introduction to hurdling when second at Warwick over 2m 5f early October, building nicely on his one bumper run. Drops back to just under 2m here, but some good form from that Warwick race and a progressive sort, he has a solid each way chance in a better race. Sam Twiston-Davies rides.
12.40 - Crievehill won nicely at Wetherby last month on his seasonal debut from a handy looking mark of 138. Up 7lbs for that but is in very good form and back up to 3m 1+f today can bring some more from him. A very competitive event and we go from top weight, but another solid each way chance, Sam aboard.
1.15 - The Hollow Ginge started his season with a fine win at Warwick over 2m 7f then followed that with a runners up spot at Aintree four weeks ago on his handicap chase debut over 3m 1f. Is up to 142 now, 10lbs higher than his rating when winning at Warwick, but seems to be progressing in step with that. Drops back to 2m 5+f today, but that shouldn’t be a worry and another good run expected. Sam rides.
2.25 - Echiquier joined us from France and made an immediate impact winning a three runner hurdle at Hexham over just short of 3m. Finished mid-division dropped back to 2m 3+f at Chepstow last time but back up in trip he looks on a decent mark for this handicap hurdle and is expected to go well. Could be good each way value at a big price. Daryl Jacob rides.
3.00 - We run two in the Betfair Chase.
- Bristol De Mai won this last year and is unbeaten in four outings at this track. Will need to be at his best despite just four runners but is in very good form and has a big chance of defending his title. Daryl in the saddle.
- One of his rivals is Ballyoptic who has had a great start to his season winning both outings including the Charlie Hall at Wetherby three weeks ago. Needs to take a step more to take this ad there is 11lbs between them on the ratings, but always gives his best and sure to put up another good performance. Sam in the saddle.
12.20 - Redford Road has started the season in great form winning a bumper and then again on his hurdles bow at Wetherby three weeks ago. Up a couple of furlongs to 2m 5+f is expected to suit and he can continue the good work. Jamie Bargary rides.
12.55 - Kapgarry had a promising start to his season with a third place over 3m at Warwick and fulfilled that promise when winning at Wetherby dropped back to 2m 3f three weeks ago. Is up 9lbs for that but is improving in step and can go close back up to 3m here. A good run expected, Tom Bellamy rides.
3.50 - Fier Echezeaux makes his bumper debut. French bred, he’s gone well at home to show he’s ready for the racecourse. Sure to improve for the experience, he’s expected to go well and a good run expected. Tom in the saddle.
