Cheltenham St Patricks Thursday
Four runners at Cheltenham St Patricks Thursday 3.30 - Wholestone, 4.10 - Templehills, Splash Of Ginge and 5.30 - Crievehill . (Ballyhill now a non-runner in the 4.10)
3.30 - Wholestone is a regular runner at this track and has a good record of 4 wins and 5 places from 10 starts, the only time out of the frame being the latest run in the Cleeve hurdle in January. That stat alone would suggest that he’s a good each way proposition at far too big a price this morning, especially when he was 3rd in this last year on the same ground. Has worked very well in the lead up and should run another big race, Sam Twiston-Davies rides.
4.10 - Templehills has a couple of wins over similar trips to his name, at Fakenham and Warwick last year from marks of 132 and 137 respectively but was raised a further 7lbs after the latter. Appears to have been held by that in four races since, but is now back to 140 which should make him more competitive and has freshened since his last run in December. Tom Bellamy rides.
4.10 - Splash Of Ginge ran a great race to be second in this last year and goes from the same mark of 137 today. Now an 11yo, he still retains his ability and enthusiasm, is in good shape and as a previous course and distance winner, can go well again. Sam in the saddle.
5.30 - Crievehill tries 3m 2f for the first time, but comes in to this on a decent handicap mark of 140, having been raised as high as 146 following a win at Sandown last year. He’s expected to get the trip and better treated now should make him far more competitive, but he also showed very positive signs with a good 4th at Ascot in February over 3m. A good run expected, Zac Baker takes the ride.
