Cheltenham Festival - Gold Cup Day

2.10 - The County Hurdle

Sir Valentine started the season with a fall on his hurdles bow at Chepstow in October but bounced back with a good win at Newbury four weeks later. Has been really progressive since with a second at Wetherby then placed in two class 1 handicaps at Ascot and Newbury, all around 2m on ground from good to heavy. Plenty more to come for sure and he has a realistic each way chance. Jamie Bargary rides.

Stolen Silver has a very similar profile in that he too didn’t finish on his hurdles and stable bow here at the October meeting, unseating his rider, but came back to win next time at Ffos Las. A second here was then followed by a win in a class 1 at Haydock, before finishing 8th behind Sir Valentine (in fourth )in that Newbury class 1 latest. Still progressing, looks sure to make his presence felt too. Sam Twiston-Davies rides.

Hard to split our two here, as both look to have equally good each way chances!

2.50 - Albert Bartlett Hurdle

Redford Road has had a good season, going on from his bumper win at the start of the season, to also win on his hurdles bow over 2m 3+f at Wetherby. Stepping up in trip again, he took a good second at Ascot and then won here over 3m in a good class 1 at the December meeting. Didn’t go so well dropped back here in January, but today’s 3m with ground to suit, can bring out more in him and he too has realistic each way prospects. Sam Twiston-Davies aboard.

3.30 - The Gold Cup

Bristol De Mai was a highly creditable third in this last year and has had just the two outings this term, with today’s renewal in mind. Second to one of today’s rivals at Haydock, he went well staying on nicely, then was second again to another rival here on Festival trials day in January. Has come on for both runs, but will be sharper today and a similar run to last year can be expected, but with a little luck in running, could be right there when it matters. Daryl Jacob in the saddle.

Fakenham Racecourse

1.55 - All About You has had four bumpers and shown some promise, but didn’t go so well at Ludlow on his hurdles debut. Has had a wind op since (early November) and given time to recover, so hopeful of seeing some of that promise coming to hand today. Jordan Nailor rides and takes off 5lbs.

2.35 - Echiquier is another that won nicely on his stable debut back in October, but tried in higher class since, has acquitted himself well over hurdles, without getting back in the winners enclosure. Made a pleasing chasing debut last time at Kempton and versatile regards to trip and ground, this drop in grade over 3m on good to soft could be ideal for him, despite top weight and a good run expected. James Bowen in the saddle.

3.15 - Monarchofthegrange has had just two outings, a Chepstow bumper in early November and then a hurdles outing at Huntingdon just over three weeks ago, finishing mid-division on both occasions. Has more than shown so far and we try a hood today to see if we can settle him and bring that out. Today’s ground should suit and expected to show improvement, Jordan in the saddle.

3.55 - Imperial Acolyte showed promise when winning on his hurdles debut at Wetherby back in November ‘18, but has had three outings and a couple of wind ops, the last in October. Has had three handicaps since going from a mark of 117 down to 105 today, but has gone better than that suggests. Has gone over various trips from 2m to 2m 5f but could be well suited by today’s 2m 4f on the good to soft ground. Could be a good opportunity to make the most of this mark and a good run expected with each way chances. Jordan rides and the 5lb claim may prove valuable.
