Ascot Racecourse November 20th
Three runners at Ascot Racecourse now, with Torn And Frayed a non-runner in the 12.55.
2.05 - We run two in this race.
Count Meribel - Was last seen in January at the Cheltenham festival trials meeting, when pulled up after losing a shoe. Returns in good order and has gone well fresh in the past, but also on a more lenient mark of 142. Had taken a hike from 137 to 148 after his last win, so this should help somewhat. Goes well over this trip of 2m 5f and will appreciate the good to soft. Usual pilot Mark Grant in the saddle and a good run expected with each way prospects.
Earlofthecotswolds - Has had a couple of hurdles this season, but now returns to fences over which he showed some good form last term including a win at Exeter from a mark of 139 and a creditable mid-division finish at the festival from the same mark. Is down 4lbs from that today, so looks to be on a good mark. Another who will appreciate trip and ground, also expected to go well with each way chances. Sam Twiston-Davies rides.
3.15 - Townshend - Won over course and distance back in January from 136, but a raise of 6lbs maybe got the better of him. He’s back to 137 today. Has had a couple of outings so far this season, finishing last of 11 over hurdles at Perth, before returning to fences here three weeks ago. Went very well but a blunder at the 10th saw a remarkable recovery from Jamie Nield and the pair managed to stay on finishing 9th. Must be in with a chance back on this mark within a pound of his last win. Jamie rides.
