There has been a racecourse at Wolverhampton since 1887, although it has moved location slightly since the early years and is now based at Dunstall Park.
In December 1993 the old style racecourse was re-vamped with a new all weather Fibresand track, which ran alongside the turf track, and floodlights. The majority of racing was on the flat all weather track with just a couple of jump fixtures a year.
A hotel and new grandstand, restaurants and executive boxes were built on site.
Formerly privately owned, the racecourse and hotel were purchased in 1999 by Arena Leisure Plc.
In 2004, the Fibresand track and turf track were replaced with one Polytrack surface and there were substantial refurbishments to the hotel and conference facilities. Since that time there has only been flat, all weather racing at Wolverhampton.
Each year has seen the fixture list grow and in 2006 Wolverhampton hosted 110 fixtures.
Although Wolverhampton hosts afternoon and evening racing it is most famous for it's Saturday evening race meetings which are followed by entertainment for restaurant diners. This means that guest can enjoy a full evening of entertainment in one venue, and if you're quick enough to book into the on site Holiday Inn hotel, you can even stay over night.
